TWA News
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is fast approaching. Please consider participating in this year’s show. It is a great opportunity to represent our breed and to meet and learn from other breeders.
A new Youth Wagyu Steer show will be added to this year’s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This is a great opportunity to get young folks involved in Wagyu cattle. The steers have to be at least 50% Wagyu and registered with the American Wagyu Association but do not have to be registered in the young persons name so if you have a Wagyu steer, find yourself a young person to show it for you and join in on the fun. There will be 3 different divisions depending on the age of the exhibitor. They are:
- Exhibitors ages 8-12 years old
- Exhibitors ages 13-15 years old
- Exhibitors ages 16-18 years old
Prizes will be awarded for both how the steer places and a showmanship awards for each exhibitor age division.
The Youth Wagyu Show will be on Tuesday the March 3rd and the Open Wagyu show (Fullblood Bulls, Heifers) will be Wednesday March 4th. There will also be an Open steer (Minimum of 50% Wagyu) show on March 4th. The steers that are shown in the Youth Wagyu Show may also be entered into the Open Wagyu show.
The deadline for entry for both the Open Wagyu Show and the Youth Wagyu Show is January 5th. Online fees will be $35/entry and paper entry fees will be $40/entry. Late fees will be assessed starting on January 6th – January 15th; NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER JANUARY 15TH. Late fees will consist of an additional $35/head ($70 total) for online entries and an additional $40/head ($80 total) for paper entries.
